After years in the making—and a journey that started even before COVID—we are beyond proud (and a little emotional!) to say that the "See Sailing Your Way" project is officially live.

This pioneering collaboration between Blind Sailing UK and RYA Sailability has one clear goal: to empower more sailing clubs, centers, coaches, and volunteers to confidently welcome and support blind and visually impaired sailors across the UK on to the water.

A Vision Turned Reality

The seed of this project was planted long ago, and after delays and determination, it finally began to sprout at the end of 2024. Thanks to the incredible efforts of Adam McGovern, James Wheeldon, and Kate Healey, the very first test training day proved what we already knew—this works, and it matters.

Now in early 2025, we're thrilled to see the project enter its first official phase, with clubs across the country beginning to embrace, adapt, and See Sailing Their Way.

Training the Trainers

Leading the charge are Blind Sailing’s own Jonny Cormack, Lucy Hodges, and Daryl Sholem, who have teamed up with the RYA Sailability team to deliver the first two training sessions. From hands-on sessions at clubs to online calls supporting volunteers and coaches, the project is building momentum.

It's not just about sailing—it's about understanding, communication, and building confidence so that visually impaired sailors can feel truly welcomed, supported, and empowered on the water.

2025 – The Launchpad

We’re calling 2025 the launch phase—but really, it’s just the beginning. The aim? To grow a national network of clubs that are blind-sailing-ready, giving more people the opportunity to enjoy this incredible sport, no matter their level of sight.

We want to help every sailor find their course, and every club find the tools to make that possible.
